BIOGRAPHY
Soprano Anna Bateman is noted as much for her stage presence as for her musicality. She is a dynamic and engaging performer and singer who imbues warmth and charm into all of the music she sings and roles she plays. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, and through the years she has been lucky enough to travel throughout Canada, the USA and Europe to study and perform.
Anna is a founding member of the very popular classical crossover group ViVA Trio. In the Fall of 2017 ViVA trio released their cinematic debut album “Nothing Else Matters''. This album contains 9 contemporary cover songs ranging from Metallica’s "Nothing Else Matters" to Leonard Cohen’s "Hallelujah" set to gorgeous, live orchestral recordings as well as two stunning original songs. ViVA Trio is the proud recipient of the prestigious MARTYS Award from the Mississauga Arts Council for Established Music Group.
ViVA Trio regularly performs Internationally, and have a strong online presence with all of their outstanding, self produced music videos.
In the Summer of 2017 ViVA Trio was engaged by the Filharmonia Dolnoslaska in Jelenia Gora, Poland where the ladies took centre stage as Canadian Ambassadors in a concert to honour Canada’s 150th Anniversary. The concert was met with multiple standing ovations from the extremely enthusiastic audience. As a soloist, Anna has performed at some of Toronto's most prestigious and popular musical venues such as Casa Loma's "Symphony in the Garden'' under the baton of Maestro Kerry Stratton where she serenaded over 1000 people, and with The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra, Choral Works Collingwood and with the Toronto Choral Society to name a few. She has also been a guest artist at Soulpepper Theatres very popular and always sold out “New York Cabaret Series” with musical director Mike Ross.
Anna has performed in over 20 operatic roles in fully staged operas. Most recently, Hannah Glawari, in The Merry Widow, Adele in Die Fledermaus, (to critical acclaim from Opera Canada Magazine), Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Amy in Little Women. As well as performing in these theatrical gems, Anna has taken to the stage to perform in concert some of the most beautiful sacred music such as, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Gabriel Faure’s Requiem in D minor, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Respighi’s Lauda per la Nativita del Signore, and in one of the most popular concert pieces in the repertoire, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, where Anna shone with her fluid and gorgeous high notes!
When Anna is not busy performing internationally, she is a music instructor in Toronto, Canada where she nurtures a large private studio of young musicians.
